I had a great race on Sunday. The weather was fantastic, the folks, the samples (oh man GF EVERYWHERE even donuts and bagels!!) but the trail for the run…not so great. FULL of hills, valleys and more steep hills. When I thought Federal Hill had a hill boy was I wrong. Yeah not so much. The hill down Boston street going up to Ellwood is much worse and is a horrible, mean way to end a race. Seriously.

My time was a minute better than my last race but I was really huffing it up that last hill and didn’t think I would make it to the finish line. I’m pretty sure I could have ran it much faster if it wasn’t for those damn hills. We did get a lovely view of the water in Canton from that big ass hill we climbed up and I did get to run through Patterson Park which was lovely…but it wasn’t worth the hills. The hills sucked. Ask Melinda, she’ll back me up on that one.

This will be last race of this season and I’ll be looking for another 5k to do in late September/early October when the weather is much cooler. In the mean time, I’ll be trying to run 3-4 times a week and do cardio the rest of the week. I’m sticking to my 5 workouts a week plan…and I’m feeling pretty good about my progress…although I’m not sure I’ll ever get rid of my baby pooch. While I’ve been doing crunches at night and mixing in pilates I’m never sure how much of it really helps. I’m happy with the way I look and that’s all that really matters right?

I went running last night and my thighs have been killing me since Sunday (again with the hills) and I was running up my street and found my neighbors on the roof. Because I’m nosey and couldn’t keep my eyes off of what they were doing my left foot landed in a ditch (isn’t really the right word…it’s more like a hole in the road big enough for a tire to fit in). My sneaker hooks into the edge of the ditch and I over compensate with my right leg and with the speed I was going up the hill I tripped. Sorta. I landed on my elbows preventing my head from bouncing off the pavement. Having your neighbors scream “are you okay?” from their roof is never a pretty picture. I’m fine my elbows are a little tender this morning but it was more humiliating than painful.

*ugh* don’t tell me that!!! Be careful! You don’t want to be metallic like me! :)

Awesome! I aim to be able to do a 5k. Right now I walkveryveryfast and throw in as many bursts of running as I can over a 4.6 k course.

    I second Becky’s comment.
